The Dangerous Goods Air Awareness course provides you with information about the safety and practical aspects of transporting dangerous goods by air. This course will also allow you to gain a sound understanding of all legal requirements which apply to the job.

Topics covered in this course include:

• The basic processes and procedures involved in preparing dangerous goods for air transport.
• Classification of dangerous goods, including the properties and risks of each dangerous goods class/division.
• Identification of dangerous goods through use of labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s).
• Use of the Dangerous Goods List included in the IATA Regulations.
• Packaging, marking and labelling requirements for air transport.
• Documentation requirements, including Shippers Declarations and Air Waybills.
• Getting dangerous goods to the airport, including road transport rules and safety procedures.
• Basic acceptance procedures and use of acceptance checklists.
• Preparing packages for air transport, including determining compatibility, consolidating and restraining.
• Transport considerations for dangerous goods, including airline procedures and documentation, dangerous goods allowed as carry-on and checked luggage, and identification of hidden/undeclared/misdeclared dangerous goods.
• Basic emergency procedures and reporting of hazards.

This course is IATA-approved and internationally accepted.

This course is recommended for personnel whose job roles involve handling and preparing dangerous goods for air transport. It may be completed by persons working in any country where IATA Regulations are followed during air transport of dangerous goods.

Note: This awareness course does not qualify personnel to consign, ship or accept dangerous goods for air transport.

• The “Complete Dangerous Goods Course for Beginners” – an online pre-requisite learning module which introduces students to each of the nine classes of dangerous goods and their associated risks.
• An online Learners Guide which includes five modules. The Learners Guide provides all required theoretical information in a user-friendly and interactive online format. Each module also includes a range of self-test questions, which help you to check your learning as you go.
• An online simulation of the Dangerous Goods List used by workers to find what rules and regulations apply to each dangerous good being transported by air.
• Additional printable learning materials for airline personnel, which provides information specific to airline practices.
• A theory assessment which tests each student’s understanding of the information provided in the Learners Guide.
