This course is the annual refresher recommended to maintain currency of the Maintain Safety at an Incident Scene qualification. The course also includes the mandatory prerequisite unit ‘Prevent Injury’.

Topics covered in this course include:

• Organisational hierarchies and working with a variety of different organisations/people.
• Working in accordance with the law, and Duty of Care.
• Safely accessing and securing the scene, and maintaining entry/exit logs.
• Treating and reporting injuries.
• Identifying and controlling hazards in a range of environments and work conditions, and seeking out information via a variety of means (e.g. expert advice, documentation, scene inspection, etc.).
• Common hazards at incident scenes.
• Implementing safety procedures, working safely and communicating effectively in a variety of conditions.
• Monitoring the scene, identifying safety issues and dealing with changing conditions.
• Survival techniques.
• Selection, inspection and use of personal protective equipment.
• Manage personal health and wellbeing in stressful and physically demanding conditions.

This course is based on the national competency standards accredited by the state and national training authorities. It is delivered 100% online.

This training is appropriate for workers who already hold a Maintain Safety at an Incident Scene qualification, and are seeking to update their training. This training is particularly suited to employees or volunteers of fire authorities, State Emergency Services (SES), local government agencies and contractors supporting such agencies during incidents or as part of the incident recovery process.

Note: You must hold a current Maintain Safety at an Incident Scene licence, ticket or statement of attainment to complete this training. You will be required to provide a copy of this to us in order to successfully complete this course and receive your certification.

As part of this course, learners will have access to:

• An online Learners Guide which includes four modules. The Learners Guide provides all required theoretical information in a user-friendly and interactive online format. Each module also includes a range of self-test questions, which help you to check your learning as you go.
• A theory assessment which tests each student’s understanding of the information provided in the Learners Guide.

All components of this course are 100% online.
